Has the quality of your house been manipulated?

Our team at MYCRS appeared on Astro AEC’s “INNOVATHON,” where we shared something many Malaysians rarely see—the hidden problem of substandard practices in concrete testing. For years, we have been researching and developing solutions to protect the integrity of our buildings, because we have witnessed firsthand how easily concrete quality inspection can be manipulated when the entire process depends too much on manual work and human supervision.

Throughout our journey, homeowners, engineers, and even regulators have privately shared their concerns with us. Many industry professionals already know these issues exist, but without solid evidence or transparent records, it is extremely difficult for anyone to take action. As long as testing remains manual, loopholes exist. And when loopholes exist, some parties may take advantage of them, while innocent homebuyers end up paying the price. This is the reality that pushed us to start MYCRS.

When we speak to engineers, they often tell us the same thing:“Yes, manipulation happens. And yes, it’s very hard to detect.”Not because engineers or technicians are incompetent, but because the system itself relies heavily on trust, handwritten records, and human honesty. In any industry, when there is no independent verification, it is only a matter of time before cracks appear—literally and figuratively.

Over the years, we’ve seen the situation worsen. Manipulation methods are getting more sophisticated, and the impact on building safety is becoming more worrying. If this trend continues, Malaysia may face a wave of defects and structural failures in the coming decades. We asked ourselves a simple question:Do we want our families and future generations to live in buildings with uncertain structural integrity? For us, the answer was clearly “No.” This is why we created MYCRS—to remove doubt, provide transparency, and let data speak for itself.

What many Malaysians may not know is that our technology has already been recognised overseas for many years. Countries like Hong Kong, Singapore, and the UAE understand the importance of independent testing systems that minimize human influence. Yet, locally, we still struggle to gain traction—not because the technology is unproven, but because change is always difficult, especially in industries where old practices run deep. It reminds us of the well-known story of Pendrive inventor Pua Khein-Seng: a Malaysian innovation appreciated globally before it was appreciated at home. We hope Malaysia does not repeat that pattern in construction safety.

Our concern is simple:Are we truly comfortable allowing families to live in homes built on uncertain data?Every time we hear about an earthquake, flood, or even a minor structural failure, we are reminded of the risks hidden behind weak testing governance. Homeowners deserve to know that their building stands on verified strength—not assumptions.

As MYCRS, we believe Malaysia can do better. We believe that our regulatory bodies, developers, engineers, and testing laboratories all want the same thing: safe, reliable buildings. But to achieve that, we need a transparent, traceable, tamper-proof testing system that protects everyone involved.

With elections approaching, we sincerely hope policymakers and industry leaders will treat this issue seriously. Concrete testing is not just a technical procedure—it determines the safety of millions of Malaysians. We have already built a system powerful enough to close these loopholes. What we need now is the collective will to implement it.

Malaysia deserves safe homes. Our children deserve safe cities. And with the right technology, we can finally make this a reality.
